Memories that last a Lifetime: Six tips for finding your Wedding Day Photog

Choosing Your Wedding Photographer

You have been planning for a while and, let’s face it, thinking about it since you were a child. If you’re like me, you can fondly remember pulling out your parent’s old photo albums and looking over the photos of them on their wedding day. It’s always fun to look at the styles and trends and see how young and beautiful they were! (P.S. Who doesn’t love some Aqua Net and a mullet for that classic eighties-wedding-day-win?!)

Bottom line is, that what you will have at the end of all of the extensive wedding plans and fittings, Pinterest boards, tastings, and showers, are your memories and your photos. That’s why choosing your photographer is such an important decision. We have a few tips for helping you make that all-important selection.

We always recommend that after you secure your venue, the very next steps should be to find a photographer and wedding planner/day of coordinator that you really like. These two pieces to your wedding puzzle are such a crucial part of your actual wedding day and, often they are individuals who do not rely on large teams or outsourcing to deliver on their services.

GHW Tips that will take you:

From GlassHaus-to-Spouse

1.) What kind of "vibe" do you like (airy whimsical, vs dark moody)? Check social networking groups or ask your venue or wedding planner for some of their favorites based on the vibe that you are most comfortable with.

2.) Once you have gotten a feel for your style and vibe, start stalking their websites, Instagrams etc... and decided on three that you want to interview. You can schedule Zoom calls with all of them.

3.) Make sure that you like the photos they take, their style, etc.

4.) Ask them about their archiving process.

5.) Ask them if they have a second shooter or if will they work alone.

6.) Ask about turn-around time for your images

7.) Inquire about their back-up plan

5.) Make sure their pricing and packages fit your budget

6.) Perhaps most important-- you have to vibe with them as a person! They'll be following you around all day and you want that relationship to be easy, seamless and one that matches your personality.

The next steps are driven by the photographer but typically they will ask you to pay a retainer deposit to secure the date.

Now you can relax and check that one off of your list, congrats!!
